Prince George’s Film Festival and Prince George’s County’s Office of the County Executive Shine Spotlight on Homegrown Talent with Opening Night Film Screening

Largo, MD, September 5, 2023 –– The Prince George’s Film Festival is excited to announce a special opening night film screening in collaboration with Prince George’s County’s Office of the County Executive. The festival, dedicated to celebrating cinema and local creativity, will proudly showcase MegaMind Media’s riveting film, The Deadly Getaway, which was filmed entirely within the borders of Prince George’s County. This collaboration underscores the importance of community support for local artists and filmmakers.

The Deadly Getaway is a cinematic tour de force that not only captures the landscapes of Prince George’s County, but also encapsulates the unique spirit and stories of our beloved community. MegaMind Media's exceptional storytelling ability shines through, creating an experience that resonates with audiences on both an emotional and local level.

"We are beyond thrilled to partner with County Executive Angela Alsobrooks and MegaMind Media to bring The Deadly Getaway to our opening night," says Donna Foster, Director of Prince George’s Film Festival.

What makes this screening even more special is that MegaMind Media is the recipient of the Prince George’s Film Office’s Film Grant Program. This program was established and supported by the County’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) to provide resources and support for local businesses, including filmmakers. MegaMind Media’s dedication and talent have resulted in a film that not only showcases the beauty of Prince George’s County, but also underscores the significance of investing in the arts in our community. “As a Prince Georgian, 2022 Award Grantee and sponsor of the festival, having The Deadly Getaway as the Opening Night film is heartwarming and rewarding. It is my hope that both seasoned and aspiring individuals wanting to grow in the film business join us,” says Tressa Azarel Smallwood, CEO of MegaMind Media.

"The Deadly Getaway is a testament to the remarkable talent and greatness that grows in Prince George’s,” Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks emphasizes. "We were proud to use ARPA funding to support the Prince George’s Film Office’s Grant Program, which aims to empower local artists like MegaMind Media to create exceptional works that reflect our shared experiences. We remain committed to championing the efforts of our local artists in any way possible."

The opening night screening of The Deadly Getaway will take place on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at The Center for Performing Arts at Prince George’s Community College. The event will mark the beginning of the Prince George’s Film Festival, which will run from September 29–October 1, 2023.
